Rigsadvokaten forsøger nu at overbevise politikerne om, at det er svært at straffe sig til mindre kriminalitet i samfundet.
Det er meget interessant, at det er landets øverste anklagemyndighed, som argumenterer imod de konstante bevægelser i retning af strengere straffe i Danmark. Det er jo netop anklagemyndighedens opgave at føre sager for samfundet imod dem, der står under anklage for at have begået noget kriminelt.
Når nu selv anklagemyndigheden godt ved at strengere straffe ikke hjælper, så var det måske en idé at stramningerne – og ikke mindst folkestemningen for strengere straffe – blev dæmpet?
Rigsadvokaten får i øvrigt støtte fra flere – en advokat og en dommer – som slår på, at unge er mindre kriminelle en nogensinde. Der er en hård kerne af kriminelle, og dem får man helt sikkert ikke til at begå mindre kriminalitet bare ved at skærpe straffen. I stedet er det helt andre redskaber, som skal i brug overfor disse mennesker. Det er mennesker som er socialt belastet og ofte dårligt integreret, hvor der er meget mere brug for støtte og behandling fra de sociale myndigheder. Jeg mener, at vi bør glemme alt om strafskærpelser og i stedet fokusere på et tidligt præventivt arbejde. Endelig er støtte fra samfundet til de mennesker, som har sociale problemer afgørende, hvis vi skal have mindre kriminalitet.
